bertiE is primarily a visual artist and music producer. In 2015/16 he started an MA in Contemporary Fine art at the University of Cumbria Institute Of Fine Art, one of the country’s oldest art institutions. As a drummer and multi-percussionist he has performed, recorded, produced and jammed with a number of international contemporary artists such as The Future Sound of London, Heidi Berry, Max Richter, Piano Circus and Luke Lockhart. He currently plays with local Cumbrian band mylittlebrother (all one word).
bertiE teaches (with PGCE) in Further Education, creative industry subjects with New College Lanarkshire. He trained as an industrial design engineer (gaining a BSc Hons Engineering Product Design) and worked in industry specialising in noise and acoustics (completing the Diploma in Acoustics and Noise Control). Working in the acoustic consultancy environment he conducted studio acoustic analysis and designs for Overtones, the famous Premises studios and mercury prize winning composer Thomas Adés in London. Later, bertiE began developing a new career path in popular music education and installed a professional quality recording studio for Access to Music (Stratford – East London), opened by Sir George Martin (producer of the Beatles). Alongside this, bertiE worked as a drummer, performing and recording with artists and he co-produced ‘Transmission’, a Piano Circus CD that received much critical attention as The Observer’s CD of the Week, Feb 2002. It was described by Mark Russell, presenter of BBC Radio 3’s Mixing It as “Piano Circus’ most successful album” to date! bertiE also went on a song writing course with Ray Davies (The Kinks) for a residential week, near the Devon moors, which greatly influenced his music, ideas and creative outlook on life! bertiE is the son of celebrated international ceramic artist Elizabeth Fritsch CBE and looks after her online interests.
